At Tea Drops we are huge fans of creating and repurposing. Our wooden boxes are not only biodegradable, but are also perfect for repurposing into creative, and useful decor. That is why we are proudly introducing a new segment of our blog that will be dedicated to recycling and reusing our Tea Drops and boxes in to some very cool Do-It-yourself projects that are both simple and affordable. So, in our first “Tea”-I.Y post we will show you how to turn one of our wooden boxes into aneasy-to-do-but-super-awesome Makeup Brush Holder!
Are your make-up brushes everywhere? Want your “beautification” area to look cool with next to no effort whatsoever? Then we have an easy and fun solution for you! This project can also be used to hold your pens too if you are looking to spiffy up your desk or office. Nearly all of the items on the supply list were bought from either The Dollar Tree or Target’s Dollar section. This project can cost you less than $5, however, if you’re a craft hoarder like I am then you probably already have these supplies laying around the house. Cool, right?!
What You’ll need:
Step One: Preparing your box.
Sand all sides of the box and sharp corners. Remove box top and save for another project.
Step Two: Painting and Sealing.
Add 2-3 coats of paint and let dry completely. Once dry, add one layer of Mod-podge or sealant of your choice. Let dry completely.
Optional: If you want to add some more pizzazz to your box, we glued a simple line of ribbon around the box. You can also cut out some pretty pictures and tack them on with Mod-Podge or add some Washi Tape. After you do this add another layer of Sealant or Mod-Podge to protect your hard work. Let dry completely.
Step Three: Floral Foam Time!
Cut your floral foam to fit comfortably inside your box and so that it is about 1 ½ inch in height. Tack onto the box by adding a light layer of glue or mod-podge on the bottom of the floral foam. Let dry completely.
Step Four: Filling.
Once every layer and every tack on your box is COMPLETELY dry, add the filler of your choice. We used a decorative sand from the Dollar Tree but you can get even more creative here. Examples: Beach sand, small rocks, coffee beans, rice, pretty beads, glass rocks etc.
Step Five: Enjoy your new swag.
Seriously, how cool are you?! Now you can stick your brushes in and feel awesome having a great designated spot for your brushes. Show it off to your friends and family, and make sure to share your DIY creation with us using #MyTeaDrop. Swagger on and drink some tea!
